Marc Tremblay sworn in as Berlin state rep after special election victory
This story was updated Thursday at 2:30 p.m. to clarify the status of the appeal with additional information from the Secretary of State’s Office.
Marc Tremblay, who won a special election to represent Berlin in the New Hampshire House of Representatives last month, was sworn in to office at Wednesday’s Executive Council meeting.
Tremblay defeated Democrat Corinne Cascadden in a race so close it led to a recount. After the recount, the results stood at 878-873, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. Following the recount, the House Democratic Caucus announced plans to appeal the results of that recount to the Ballot Law Commission. However, they ultimately never filed the appeal and the recount stood, Kaley Dion, assistant secretary of state, told the Bulletin.
Tremblay replaces fellow Republican Brian Valerino, who resigned from the seat to become warden of the Northern New Hampshire Correctional Facility in Berlin. On the campaign trail, Tremblay, who had a long career in law enforcement, made public safety a focus, promising to further stiffen bail laws and support local police departments.
