Daines leads Senate Resolution commemorating 110 years of National Park Service

Montana U.S. Sen. Steve Daines, chairman of the chamber’s National Parks Subcommittee, cosponsored a resolution this week celebrating the National Park Service’s 110-year anniversary on Aug. 25.

The last week of August is designated as “National Park Week,” and includes multiple themed days, according to the National Park Service. In addition to offering a fee free day at National Park Service sites on Tuesday, the celebration includes Watch Wildlife Wednesday, Thankful Thursday, Freedom Friday, Staff Saturday and Junior Ranger Day on Sunday, Aug. 30.

Many NPS locations will hold special programming during the week.

“America’s national parks are true national treasures worth protecting,” Daines, a Republican, said in a statement. “These parks are America’s crown jewels, and we will cherish them for generations to come.”

Maine independent Sen. Angus King cosponsored the resolution with Daines, and 64 senators signed on, including Montana Sen. Tim Sheehy, a Republican.

“From the rocky coasts of Acadia to the breathtaking canyons of Zion, America’s national parks hold some of our nation’s most treasured landscapes and inspire people from around the world by the majesty and vision of America’s best idea,” King said in a statement. “As our parks continue to face serious staffing and funding challenges, National Park Week is an important reminder of our responsibility to protect these special places and support the dedicated employees who care for them.”
