TribCast: How Texas schools will teach about Islam
Description
Students sing during their Arabic class at Iman Academy on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, in southwest Houston (Annie Mulligan for The Texas Tribune)

In this week’s episode of the TribCast, hosts Matthew and Eleanor speak with Texas Tribune education reporter Jaden Edison and Ayaan Moledina, a 17-year-old student activist from Round Rock. They discuss Texas’ new social studies curriculum, which the State Board of Education approved last week. Over the objection of many Muslims, the lessons call for a portrayal of Islam that largely emphasizes violence and conflict with the West.
