After months of campaigning, polling and prognostication, voters across the country had their say in the 2026 midterm elections on Tuesday. And despite fears about possible trouble at polling places, millions of votes were cast, mostly without incident.

Voters administered a sharp reprimand to President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans, with Democrats capturing comfortable majorities in the U.S. Senate and the House.

Democrats also are poised to control the majority of governor’s offices for the first time in 16 years following major GOP losses.

It was a historic day: Voters chose the first female Black governor in U.S. history in Georgia, the first Native American woman for the U.S. Senate in Minnesota, the first Black Republican governor in Florida and the first Muslim as a U.S. senator in Michigan.

Here is a look at how Election Day played out in states from coast to coast.
