Gov. Little, state officials to travel to Arco for Idaho ‘Capital for a Day’ on Oct. 22
Arco, also known as “The Atomic City,” will serve as Idaho’s “Capital for a Day” on Thursday.
Gov. Brad Little and other top state officials will travel to Arco for events taking place 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Lost Rivers Community and Senior Center, located at 555 S. Water St. in Arco.
Little, other statewide elected officials and agency directors regularly travel to smaller Idaho communities for Capital for a Day events.
“Arco earned its name as ‘The Atomic City’ by powering the future, and today it remains uniquely connected to the important research taking place at the Idaho National Laboratory, our nation’s leading center for nuclear energy research and development,” Little said in a press release. “It is an honor to host our next Capital for a Day in Arco. I am eager to listen to the voices of Butte County and collaborate on the issues that impact this community, helping us build a state government that truly delivers for Idahoans.”
The small Butte County city was the first in the world to be lit by electricity generated solely by nuclear power — this occurred for about an hour in 1955.
