Maine AG urges residents to check eligibility for generic drug price settlement

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey is urging residents to check if they bought certain generic drugs, in which case they may be eligible for new settlement funds. 

Maine and 47 other states and territories plan to use settlement funds from drug manufacturers to refund consumers that paid inflated prices for certain generic drugs from May 2009 and December 2019, according to a press release from the Office of the Maine Attorney General. 

The coalition filed a series of antitrust lawsuits against drug manufacturers, starting in 2016, arguing the companies conspired to raise the prices of generic drugs. The coalition has reached settlements with several manufacturers, totalling roughly $96.5 million. 

This month a federal judge gave initial approval to the coalition’s plan for the settlement funds.
