• The Libertarian candidate for governor. Cleveland.com’s Jeremy Pelzer reports, “Ohio governor candidate calls for ‘immediate moratorium’ on new data centers.”Libertarian gubernatorial nominee Don Kissick on Tuesday called for an immediate moratorium on every Ohio data center project that has not already broken ground, until state lawmakers establish permanent statewide standards for the controversial facilities.

  “Ohioans need room to breathe, and the land rush … should stop until permanent statewide standards are in place,” Kissick said in a release. “The rules should be clear before construction begins—not negotiated project by project.”

• Vivek’s ‘winners and whiners’ speech. In an opinion column for the Cincinnati Enquirer, Ray Marcano writes, “Ramaswamy will be haunted by ‘winners or whiners’ deplorables-like speech.”Some campaign events are so cringeworthy that you feel for the candidates. In Vivek Ramaswamy’s case, his last speech on July 31 in Cincinnati belongs in the hall of fame of embarrassing political performances.

  He got booed off the stage by college students after off-putting remarks infuriated what should have been a friendly crowd. And when the crowd turned on him, he tucked tail and left.

• Not dropping out. The Akron Beacon Journal’s Stephanie Warsmith reports, “Trump calls Rep. Max Miller as pressure mounts for Miller to drop out.”President Donald Trump called U.S. Rep. Max Miller Monday, with pressure mounting for Miller to drop his re-election bid. Miller says he’s still in.
• Springfield layoffs. USA Today’s Alex Perry reports, “Layoffs in this Ohio city could affect more than 1,300 workers.”International Motors LLC plans to sell its Springfield operations to Roshel Inc. in October 2026. Nearly all of the 1,341 employees at the facilities are expected to be terminated upon the sale’s completion.

  The facilities are not closing, but it is unknown if Roshel will rehire any current employees. This event marks the largest mass layoff reported in Ohio in the last five years.

• Aug. 4, 2019. The Dayton Daily News’ Greg Lynch reports, “7 years ago today, a shooting in the Oregon District changed our city.”Seven years ago, nine people were taken from their friends and family in a brutal attack on a crowd in Dayton’s Oregon District. The shooting that also injured dozens happened the night of Aug. 4, 2019.
