OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma’s crowded Republican race for insurance commissioner is headed to a runoff after no candidate received the majority of the votes.

Bob Sullivan will face Marty Quinn during the Aug. 25 primary runoff ballot. Sullivan won about 37% of the vote while Quinn received about 27%. Greta Shuler and Chris Merideth split the remaining votes, receiving about 17% each.

The top two voter-getters in the contest advance to the partisan runoff election.

Sullivan has said his two decades of expertise in property and casualty insurance will allow him to bring accountability to the insurance industry. He plans to challenge state policies that have allowed Oklahoma’s insurance rates to skyrocket.

Quinn has touted his work in the insurance industry for over 40 years. He wants to increase the claims process and recruit more insurance carriers to give families more options.
