Democratic State Sen. Jeremy Moss of Southfield notched another key endorsement on Wednesday, this time from sitting U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Bay City).

McDonald Rivet’s endorsement of Moss in his bid for the open 11th Congressional District adds to a list of supporters including Attorney General Dana Nessel, several Michigan legislators in both chambers, scores of local officials and organizations like LiUNA Local 1076 and the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus.

The nod from McDonald Rivet was, however, the first endorsement Moss has received from a sitting member of Congress.

“Every day in the Senate, I sat next to Jeremy and saw up close his dedication, passion, and skill,” McDonald Rivet said. “Together, we helped to deliver big results for Michigan families, from gun violence prevention to the biggest tax cut for working families in our state’s history. Now, I am excited to support him in this campaign and then work together on practical solutions that make life better for families across our state.”

Moss called McDonald Rivet a “standout fighter” and said he was eager to form a partnership with her in Washington, D.C.

“In the Legislature, we worked to provide families real relief from rising costs and protect their fundamental freedoms,” Moss said. “With her support, we will build on this progress and ensure Michigan voices are heard in Washington.”

The 11th Congressional District seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Birmingham), who is one of several candidates for Michigan’s open U.S. Senate seat. Moss is currently the lone Democrat seeking the nomination, although other potential candidates include former U.S. Rep. Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Township) and Oakland County Commissioner Dave Woodward.

On the Republican side, there are two candidates who have filed paperwork; Anthony Paesano and Mike Steger.
