Des Moines University partners with Central College for healthcare education progression
Two of Iowa’s private higher education institutions are partnering to provide students with greater opportunities to further their education in health sciences.
Des Moines University announced in a news release Monday it has partnered with Central College in Pella to offer reserved seats, guaranteed interviews and accelerated degree achievement in certain programs.
“This partnership will not only benefit DMU and Central College, but also the state of Iowa at large by attracting academically strong students into our programs and preparing them for careers in medicine and health sciences,” said Des Moines University President Angela L. Walker Franklin in the release. “Our society needs these professionals, and we are excited to partner with Central to create more opportunities for students to step into these vital roles.”
According to the release, the doctorate programs in podiatric medicine, occupational therapy and physical therapy at Des Moines University will reserve one seat each for qualifying Central College students to apply for starting this month.
Guaranteed interviews for Central students will be offered for the doctor of osteopathic medicine and doctor of philosophy in biomedical sciences programs, the release stated, as well as masters’ programs in anatomy, biomedical sciences and physician assistant studies.
A 3+3 program will also be available for Central undergraduates admitted to the doctorate of occupational therapy and Des Moines University students in the program, so they can concurrently earn undergraduate and graduate credits. Des Moines University’s master’s programs in public health and healthcare administration will allow Central students to begin earning credits early as well.
“Central College looks forward to providing students this superb opportunity to pursue careers in a wide array of medical fields,” says Mary Strey, vice president for academic affairs at Central College, in the release. “By obtaining a foundational education that spans behavioral sciences, arts and humanities in addition to the sciences, Central students are well prepared for success. Central and DMU graduates will have a quality education to meet the needs of Iowa residents and employers.”
