The Colorado Capitol in Denver was evacuated Wednesday morning after Colorado State Patrol found a “suspicious device” that looked like an explosive on a windowsill outside the building, the agency said.

Lincoln Street and 14th Avenue, two streets directly adjacent to the building, also shut down. The Denver Police Department Bomb Squad tested the device and determined it was not a threat, and the evacuation order and road closures were lifted shortly before noon.

The state patrol arrested a 32-year-old suspect around 11:30 a.m. and transferred custody of him to police.

The state Legislature is not in session, and there are far fewer people in the building than there would be between January and May.
