The Milwaukee Brewers came tantalizingly close to winning their first World Series title in franchise history Tuesday evening before the Tampa Bay Rays’ Ben Williamson hit a walk-off single to score the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning, giving the Rays a 4-3 victory.

A Cooper Pratt home run in the top of the 12th inning had the team just three outs away from the championship but a throwing error with zero outs in the top of the inning sparked a rally for the Rays, who for the first time in the series were able to string together a series of hits. Brewers pitcher Shane Drohan, who had previously pitched just one inning in the playoffs, gave up the game tying and winning runs.

At American Family Field in Milwaukee a sold out watch party was standing, clapping, cheering and groaning along with the game as if it were happening on the field in front of them and not on the massive screen in center field.

The game ended around 11:30, with kids out far past their bedtime and lifelong fans on the edge of their seats to watch their hearts get ripped out.

Watching from the third deck was Chrystal Glynn-Skipini who drove down from Neenah to watch the game in the atmosphere with her niece and great nephew.

“Why not, how awesome to be with all the other fans,” she said, double crossing her fingers that the team would close out the sweep Tuesday.

Game five of the series is Wednesday at 7 p.m.
