No Kings to host voter mobilization effort ahead of Election Day

After mobilizing millions of Americans in opposition to the administration of President Donald Trump through previous demonstrations, the coalition of organizations leading No Kings Day protests are preparing for a fourth. 

On Oct. 17, a little over two weeks before Election Day, political organizers across the nation are mobilizing to ensure eligible voters have a plan to cast their ballot. 

Multiple organizations including the American Federation of Teachers, Black Voters Matter Fund, 50501, Indivisible, MoveOn, Public Citizen, State Voices and Voto Latino are also working to coordinate the nationwide push for early voting.

The mobilization will look different than past events, ranging from block parties, to rallies to marches to the polls where early voting is available, the groups said in a news release.

At the time of publication, there are 25 events planned across Michigan including mobilizations in Delta County, Traverse City, Bay City, Saginaw, Muskegon, Battle Creek, Lansing, Canton and Ferndale.

“Since the first No Kings in June of last year millions of people have demonstrated they are not afraid and they will not bow to any would-be American King,” said Ezra Levin, the co-founder and co-executive director of Indivisible, in a statement. “We’ve sent that message loud and clear — but we’re not just sending a message with this next No Kings. We’re taking back power for the people using our constitutional right to organize and our constitutional right to vote.”

“While corrupt politicians and elected officials line their pockets, families across America are struggling to put food on the table and gas in the car,” Levin added. “No Kings: Vote Early is about making sure every eligible voter has a plan to vote, knows their options, and is ready to make their voice heard.”
