Democratic group launches $1M ad blitz highlighting Jay Feely’s allegiance to Donald Trump

A national political action committee that aims to get science-minded Democrats elected is investing nearly $1 million in ads opposing former NFL kicker Jay Feely in his bid for Congress in one of Arizona’s most competitive contests. 

The PAC, 314 Action Fund, will be running its ad across the district for the next week on television, YouTube and other streaming platforms, according to the organization. 

Congressional District 1 is both Arizona’s wealthiest district and one of the state’s most competitive. Although it leans red, it has been a high priority for Democrats, particularly now, with Americans’ dislike for President Donald Trump threatening to drag down GOP candidates up and down the ballot. 

Feely, a first-time candidate, is a Republican who has been endorsed by Trump.

The ad, titled “Rubber Stamp,” takes direct aim at Feely’s connections to Trump claiming he will be a “rubber stamp” to Trump and his policies. 

“He backed Trump’s tariffs that exploded costs. Praised the war in Iran,” the ad says. “In Congress, Jay Feely won’t be fighting for you. He’ll be a rubber stamp for Trump.” 

314 Action will be paying $781,920 to run the ads across CD1 on TV and an additional $185,884 to run the ad on digital platforms.

Trump’s popularity has plummeted this year in the wake of the Iran War he unilaterally started, rising costs for fuel and food, a violent mass deportation effort and skyrocketing healthcare bills. 

But while other GOP candidates in swing states and competitive districts — and some in Arizona — have begun to distance themselves from Trump, Feely has largely taken the opposite approach, appearing at the GOP midterm convention, where he praised Trump. 

In a press release announcing the ad, the 314 Action Fund Executive Director Erik Polyak hit on Feely’s association with Trump and his policies. 

“He backed tariffs that jacked up grocery and gas prices, cheered on a reckless war in Iran, and let Trump handpick his district for him,” Polyak said. “Arizonans are getting crushed by rising costs while Feely rubber-stamps every reckless decision to come out of the White House. Voters in AZ-01 need someone who fights for them, not someone auditioning for Trump’s approval.”

314 Action Fund has been backing a number of similar candidates in similar positions in other states as more and more doctors seek to run for office as medical misinformation has flourished under the Trump administration.
