University of Iowa partnership to expand healthcare education pathways

The University of Iowa is partnering with a graduate healthcare institution to provide UI graduates more opportunities to further their education in different areas of medicine.

Midwestern University, a graduate health sciences institution with locations in Arizona and Illinois, announced in a news release Tuesday it has signed an articulation agreement with the UI to provide guaranteed interviews and acceptance into certain programs.

“The University of Iowa has long been recognized for excellence in the health sciences, and this partnership builds on that strength by creating additional opportunities for our students to pursue advanced professional education,” said UI Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel in the release. “By expanding pathways to graduate study, we’re helping more students access high-quality educational opportunities that prepare them for meaningful careers in healthcare.”

Starting with students set to enroll at Midwestern University in fall 2027, the release stated qualifying UI students will have guaranteed admission interviews for Midwestern programs including osteopathic, podiatric, veterinary and dental medicine, as well as pharmacy, optometry and other areas.

Students who “meet specified academic criteria” could also receive guaranteed acceptance into certain Midwestern programs through the institution’s college of graduate studies and its college of health sciences nurse anesthesia program, according to the release. Both Midwestern campuses are included in the agreement.

This articulation agreement provides a smoother, more transparent path from undergraduate to graduate study, the release stated, allowing students to more easily achieve their academic and professional goals.
