Mainers can start requesting absentee ballots for November election

Maine voters can now request absentee ballots for the Nov. 3 general election. 

Any registered voter is able to request a ballot three months before Election Day under Maine’s no-excuse absentee voting laws. Ballots will be issued by municipal clerks starting 30 days out from the election. 

Mainers can request an absentee ballot through an online portal on the Maine Department of the Secretary of State’s website or directly from their town or city clerk, contact information for which can be found here.

Once a ballot request is submitted, voters can track the progress of their request online.

In the upcoming election, Mainers will be able to cast votes for governor, U.S. Senate and House, and dozens of legislative seats, in addition to local races and issues. 

Maine’s absentee voting period extends through October 29. All absentee ballots for the upcoming general election must be received by a voter’s municipality by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.
