UK to open skilled nursing facility at Hamburg campus in Lexington
The University of Kentucky’s healthcare arm will open a skilled nursing facility at their new campus at Hamburg in Lexington, working with Louisville-based Signature HealthCARE. The 105-bed facility will be a halfway point between hospital and home, officials said.
The UK Board of Trustees approved the deal on Friday morning.
“Patients from every corner of Kentucky come to UK HealthCare for the most advanced care available. When they are ready for the next step in their recovery, they deserve a place to go that is connected to the team that cared for them,” said Eric Monday, UK executive vice-president.
Signature HealthCARE operates 67 skilled nursing care facilities, including more than 30 in Kentucky.
“Leaving the hospital is a major milestone, but many patients still have important work ahead before they can return home,” said Signature HealthCARE President and CEO Joe Steier. “At Signature HealthCARE, our stakeholders help people do that work every day, rebuilding strength, restoring confidence and regaining independence.”
Under the agreement, Beyond Blue Corp., a wholly owned affiliate of UK, will hold 60% ownership of the skilled nursing facility. Commonwealth Regional Skilled Nursing Holdings LLC, an affiliate of Signature HealthCARE, will hold the remaining 40%.
A separate Signature affiliate, Commonwealth Regional Skilled Nursing Management LLC, will manage the facility’s day-to-day operations. UK HealthCare will provide clinical leadership and medical director services. The facility will purchase services from both Signature and UK affiliates.
UK HealthCare is planning a multi-phase development at its Hamburg property off Winchester Road.
