Toyota to build $922 million paint facility at Scott County manufacturing plant

Car manufacturer Toyota is planning to build a $922 million facility to produce car paint that the company says will have less water usage and greenhouse gas emissions at its decades-old car manufacturing plant in Scott County.

The car paint manufacturing facility is expected to open in 2027 and add 1 million square feet of space at the Georgetown, Kentucky, plant. According to a release from Gov. Andy Beshear’s office, the facility will be designed to “improve operational efficiencies, reduce environmental impacts and enhance the quality of vehicle finishes.”

The governor’s office considered the investment to be the largest in monetary value in Kentucky through 2024. 

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, the Toyota subsidiary running the Georgetown, Kentucky, plant, has manufactured millions of cars since 1988. The investment in the paint facility follows an announcement earlier this year it was boosting its investment to $1.3 billion to convert the plant from producing internal combustion engine vehicles into producing an electric, three-row SUV by 2026. 

Kerry Creech, president of Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, in a statement said Toyota customers will get “dynamic and stylish” car finishes while using “advanced paint technologies” for “environmentally responsible manufacturing.”
