Michigan Attorney General announces investigation into Twin Flames Universe group
A group based in Michigan that has been alleged to be a cult in multiple documentary films is now the subject of a criminal investigation launched Tuesday by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Nessel in a news release announced that she is looking into Twin Flames Universe, a new age spiritual organization with a large online following. The organization promises to match people with their soulmates, coined as “twin flames”, but has received criticism as being a self help and wellness cult. Documentaries on the group include “Desperately Seeking Soulmate: Escaping Twin Flames Universe” and “Escaping Twin Flames.”
The group operates out of Leelanau County and is run by Jeff and Shaleia Divine.
Nessel said she executed multiple search warrants on individuals at the top of the organization and its associated properties. The attorney general said a judge found probable cause that crimes may have been committed by the group and its leadership, leading to the search warrants.
Nessel asked anyone with information about potential criminal conduct regarding Twin Flames Universe or their members to contact her office.
Special Agents from the Department of Attorney General, along with the U.S. Department of Labor – Office of Inspector General, and law enforcement officers from Michigan State Police, the Leelanau County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants on Tuesday.
