Harris-Walz campaign launches offices in rural NC
The Harris-Walz campaign is kicking off a series of events in North Carolina this weekend following Vice President Kamala Harris’ appearance in Raleigh on Friday and ahead of the Democratic National Convention.
There will be 323 events engaging more than 2,500 people across the state, including Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) watch parties, canvass launches, phone banks, and volunteer trainings, according to the campaign.
Currently, there are 20 offices for the campaign across North Carolina. Six more will open next week in key rural counties, such as Wayne, Wilson, Burke, Henderson, and Lenoir counties. In addition to Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, these offices are dedicated to electing Democrats down the ballot as well.
This marks a historic investment in rural North Carolina communities, according to the campaign. Wayne, Wilson, Henderson, and Lenoir counties have seen a shift towards Democrats since 2004. Other offices will serve rural communities like Alamance and Johnston counties.
Nearly 12,000 new volunteers have signed up since Harris entered the presidential race.
Here are some of the planned events:
Saturday, Aug. 17: Wilson County office opening with Lt. Gov. candidate Rachel Hunt and State Senate candidate Raymond Smith. Jr.
Saturday, Aug. 17: Wayne County office opening with Lt. Gov. candidate Rachel Hunt and State Senate candidate Raymond Smith, Jr.
Sunday, Aug. 18: Spring Lake Supply the Vote: Back to School Drive, where the Harris-Walz campaign and the Democratic Party of North Carolina collect school supplies for local families and energize volunteers.
Sunday, Aug. 18: Road to the Convention Women for Harris Virtual Call with North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs, State Auditor Jessica Holmes, and Matty Lazo Chadderton.
According to the campaign, there will be canvass launches, phone banks, and message and story trainings for volunteers so volunteers are equipped to talk with other voters about the threat posed by a second Trump presidency.
