Arkansans can now present their driver’s licenses and state identification cards on mobile devices using Apple Wallet, state finance officials announced Wednesday.

The Department of Finance and Administration said Arkansans can use Apple Wallet to present their license or ID in person, online and in apps at select organizations, including at more than 250 Transportation Security Administration airport checkpoints around the United States. Residents will also be able to use Apple Watch to present the licenses and IDs at University of Arkansas stadiums and arenas for eligible purchases starting in the fall.

The announcement builds on the state’s rollout of Mobile ID last year, the department said.

We know a significant number of Arkansans are looking forward to adding their driver license or state ID to Apple Wallet,” Department of Finance and Administration Secretary Jim Hudson said in a news release. We are proud to work with Apple to make ID in Apple Wallet an accessible and convenient tool in our residents’ day to day activities.”

To present an ID in Apple Wallet in person, users double-click their side button, select their ID in Apple Wallet and hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near a reader. The watch or phone will then display what information is being requested.  The requested information is released from a device only after the resident reviews the data thats being shared and authorizes the release with Face ID or Touch ID. Since the information is shared digitally, residents do not need to hand over their iPhone or Apple Watch to present an ID in Apple Wallet.

To present an ID in Apple Wallet in apps or online, users select the Verify with Apple Wallet” button. They are then able to review the specific information being requested, and authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID before information is shared.

The department said residents should always carry their physical license since mobile driver’s licenses aren’t yet accepted everywhere.
