Although Mississippi has one of the nation's smallest immigrant populations, the state is home to the second largest ICE detention facility in the country. The Adams County Correctional Center in Natchez houses more than 2,000 detainees and is privately run by CoreCivic, a for-profit company with similar facilities in Kansas, New Jersey, Tennessee and other states. This collaboration between Mississippi Today, The New York Times and States Newsroom efforts to look at the people being held in Adams and the facility's impact on this southwestern Mississippi community of 30,000 residents.
