Elissa Slotkin to join with Abdul El-Sayed at Warren town hall

Michigan Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed will have some extra firepower at his planned town hall tour stop in Warren this weekend, with U.S. Sen. Elissa Slotkin as the event’s newly announced special guest.

El-Sayed is in a general election battle against Republican nominee and former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers of White Lake and Slotkin (D-Holly) and Senate Democrats have a keen interest in keeping the seat in Democratic control as U.S. Sen. Gary Peters (D-Bloomfield Township) retires at the end of the year. 

Slotkin, who will ascend to the role of Michigan’s senior senator regardless of who wins in November, defeated Rogers in 2024 despite President Donald Trump being on the ballot that year and winning the state’s Electoral College votes. With that in mind, Slotkin has stepped up to the plate to both support El-Sayed and push back against Rogers campaign talking points.

El-Sayed, in a statement, said that “no one understands the importance of keeping a corrupt, corporate politician like Mike Rogers out of office better than Senator Slotkin.”

“I am honored to have Senator Slotkin’s support in this race, and look forward to working with her in the US Senate to build a more affordable Michigan for all Michiganders,” El-Sayed said.

The town hall event in Warren will see Slotkin and El-Sayed take questions from voters and discuss policy solutions aimed at putting money and power back into the hands of working people across the state.

It is just one of several “Shouldn’t Be This Hard” town hall events El-Sayed has held through September and into October.

Michigan’s general election is on Nov. 3.
