League of Women Voters of Idaho announces candidate forums for state’s governor, US Senate races

The Leauge of Women Voters of Idaho will work in partnership with other local groups to host public forums for Idahoans to hear from candidates in the state’s U.S. Senate race and governor’s race.

The league, along with the Caldwell Chamber of Commerce, the College of Idaho and the local American Association of University Women, will host a candidate forum for candidates seeking Idaho’s U.S. Senate seat from 5-6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the City Council chambers at Caldwell City Hall, 205 S. Sixth Avenue.

Independent candidates Todd Achilles and Natalie Fleming, and Libertarian candidate Matt Loesby, will participate in the forum, while incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Risch has not responded to the league’s invitation to the forum, according to a Sept. 24 press release.

Gubernatorial candidates John Stegner, an independent, and Terri Pickens, a Democrat, will participate in a forum from 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 6 in the auditorium of South Junior High School, 3101 W. Cassia St. in Boise. Incumbent Gov. Brad Little, a Republican, did not respond to the league’s invitation to the forum, the press release said.

A moderator will ask each candidate questions written by audience members, the press release said.

“We are pleased to join other nonpartisan co-sponsors in hosting these important events,” said Elinor Chehey, League of Women Voters of Idaho vice president, in the press release. “This is a chance for voters to hear candidates, side-by-side, describe their views on public policy.
