KY Supreme Court declines to reconsider case of Fayette County judge

The Kentucky Supreme Court will not reconsider their decision that stopped the General Assembly from impeaching Fayette Circuit Judge Julie Goodman, according to a Thursday ruling.

Last spring, the House voted to forward article of impeachment to the Senate, but the Supreme Court found the process unlawful because it violated constitutional separation of powers and because her alleged wrongdoing did not rise to criminal offenses.

Republican lawmakers asked the Supreme Court to reconsider and because of a split vote without a majority, they declined.

Last year’s drama emerged out of numerous complaints surrounding Goodman’s conduct and decisions on the bench, including the judge doing her own research into a fatal hit and run case in Lexington.

However, the case was never referred to the Judicial Conduct Commission, which assesses complaints against judges.

Last May, House Speaker David Osborne and Rep. Jason Nemes, R-Louisville, asked the court to reconsider their decision with another hearing that would allow for oral arguments.
