Susie Lee one of 15 House Democrats signing anti-socialist pledge
“We are capitalist, not socialist,” declares a “Promise to America” signed by Nevada U.S. Democratic Rep. Susie Lee and 14 other centrist House Democrats.
Promise to America created the pledge earlier this month, with the help of New York Democratic Rep. Tom Suozzi and California Democratic Rep. Adam Gray. In their first X post, Promise to America says their initiative “is the path forward for the Democratic Party and our Country.”
The pledge comes as Democratic Socialists appear to be gaining influence, particularly in New York with three DSA candidates backed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani winning primaries.
Promise to America posted Lee’s signing of the pledge, saying she and New Jersey Democratic Rep. Josh Gottheimer “deliver common sense solutions for all of us.”
“The government should deliver meaningful results for the people it serves, and that’s exactly why I signed the Promise to America,” Lee said in a statement to the Nevada Current Monday. “It’s about creating a government that works for everyone, not catering to the extremes on either end or waiting for your side of the aisle to be in control to get something done. We must lower costs and expand opportunities for hardworking families across our country – the only way to do that is by being bipartisan, and I’ve worked relentlessly with Democrats and Republicans alike to achieve real results for Nevada families.”
Lee has long burnished her credentials as a centrist, and boasts of being “the most bipartisan” member of Congress. She is a vice-chair of the bipartisan Problem Solver’s caucus, and is the House Democrats’ “Battleground Leadership” representative, tasked with safeguarding the interests of Democrats in congressional districts Trump has won.
Lee was challenged in the June 9 Democratic primary by physician and self-described progressive James Lally. Lee won with 69% of the vote.
