A Texas anti-abortion activist and the state’s former solicitor general persuaded New Mexico officials in several municipalities to pass ordinances restricting abortion, records show. 

Anti-abortion groups, dozens of state attorneys general and more than 140 members of Congress are urging the U.S. Supreme Court to restrict access to mifepristone, one of two drugs used to terminate pregnancies.  

Alabama lawmakers fast-tracked legislation Thursday to protect access to in vitro fertilization, following national backlash ignited two weeks ago with the state Supreme Court ruling embryos are "children."

Fallout from the Alabama Supreme Court’s decision that said frozen embryos are “children” has reached the legislature. Sen. Tim Melson, a Republican, said he’s planning to file a bill that would protect access to in vitro fertilization, Alabama Reflector reported.

Republicans in Florida say legislation that would let expectant parents collect damages in wrongful death lawsuits for fetuses wouldn’t apply to frozen embryos created through in vitro fertilization. 

Doctors and reproductive rights advocates are condemning a Michigan Republican’s endorsement of misleading statements about hormonal birth control and his suggestion that lawmakers should ban them. 

Reproductive rights advocates said a decision by the Alabama Supreme Court finding that frozen embryos are “children” could end IVF treatments in the state.

Republican legislators in Florida have introduced “personhood” language into a wrongful death bill, which abortion-rights activists say could interfere with ongoing efforts to enshrine abortion access in the state constitution , reports the Florida Phoenix.
