New Mexico Democratic gubernatorial nominee Deb Haaland began her Election Day at Santo Domingo Pueblo in Sandoval County. If elected, Haaland, an enrolled Laguna Pueblo member, would become the country's first Indigenous woman governor. She told Source NM reporter Patrick Lohmann she hadn't dwelled on the historic element of her campaign much. “If you're immersed in the campaign, I don't think about those sort of, you know, heart things,” she said, while placing her hand on her chest.

Lisa Ward, interim city clerk of Biddeford, showed off pastries that students at the local culinary school dropped off for poll workers. She highlighted steps the city has taken to reduce lines and streamline the process, including more tables and expediters stationed by the doors.

Ward said that by noon, more than 1,100 had voted in-person. The more than 4,130 absentee ballots the city tallied, as of Friday, already exceeded the total turnout of the June primary. (Photo by Lauren McCauley/ Maine Morning Star)

Westchester County, New York, a  mostly Democratic suburban area with more 636,000 voters, announced Tuesday that ballots can't be tallied immediately because ballot readers throughout the county can't read them. The county urged voters to stay in line and continue to vote. "Ballots will be placed in designated orange emergency ballot bags, which will remain secure and monitored. ... No voter should be discouraged from participating in this election because of this issue," the announcement said.
