WEC chair certifies 2022 election
Wisconsin Elections Commission (WEC) Chair Don Millis, a Republican, certified the results of the 2022 midterm elections on Wednesday — marking the quiet end to an election season that went much more smoothly, and with less interference, than 2020.
The certification of the election is a normal ministerial function of the WEC’s chair. After the local and county boards of canvass certify the results at those levels, the chair affirms that the results are correct and makes them official.
In 2020, with Democrat Ann Jacobs as the chair, the certification of the election was a fraught step that Republicans sought to slow down as they worked fruitlessly to find evidence that the election was stolen from former President Donald Trump.
In a meeting that lasted just minutes, Millis officially certified the results of the elections conducted in November.
