We must safeguard against Republican attacks on abortion rights | Capital-Star Letters

Since the horrific Supreme Court decision in June, I have heard terrifying stories, from colleagues around the country about the fear and confusion that abortion bans have caused and the very real harm they have brought to patients and families.

I feel very fortunate to have been able to continue to care for my patients here in Philadelphia. But the future of abortion access in Pennsylvania is uncertain. Abortion rights are on the ballot this November more than ever before.

Abortion will always be a key part of comprehensive health care that people need to determine their bodily autonomy; to control if and when they will parent; to care for the children they already have; and to plan their chosen futures.

Where do Pa.’s U.S. Senate candidates stand on a proposed national abortion ban?

As physicians, we trust that our patients know their bodies and that they know what they need to live their lives in a way that is safe, healthy and affirmed. There are many reasons that people seek abortions, and every one is valid. That’s why health care decisions must be left between patients and their physicians.

The Senate GOP’s announced nationwide ban makes it crystal clear that anti-abortion extremists are not finished.
