The incumbent council member for Hawaiʻi County Council District 4, Ashley Kierkiewicz, is termed out and four nonpartisan candidates are running in the Aug. 8 primary election hoping to succeed her.

District 4 includes part of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiian Beaches, Nanawale Estates, Leilani Estates, Kamaili, Black Sands, Seaview and Kalapana.

The nonpartisan candidates were sent a survey from Civil Beat asking them to outline their views on cesspools, traffic congestion and local agriculture,
