Sen. Ted Budd’s gun shop cited for selling weapons used in crimes

A recent news story in USA Today by journalist Nick Penzenstadler about gun stores cited by the federal government for selling guns used in crimes may hold special interest for North Carolinians. This is from the report:

Presumably, most North Carolinians will find it sobering to learn that more than 70 of the problem stores are located in our state. And of particular note is the fact that one of those stores — Rural Hall-based ProShots — is owned by North Carolina’s junior U.S. Senator Ted Budd.

The USA Today story reported that gun industry representatives and store owners (Budd was not among them) largely dismissed the report as merely an indication of which stores sell the most guns, but the report also noted that “The list itself is largely a reflection of the nation’s largest gun sellers – but advocates say the time-to-crime weighting helps dilute the impact of volume alone.”

The bottom line: As America’s national gun violence crisis continues to metastasize, the story makes for, if nothing else, a fascinating and troubling read.
