Rep. LaMonica McIver (D) will easily defeat GOP challenger Carmen Bucco in the heavily Democratic 10th Congressional District, the Associated Press projected Tuesday.

The victory will hand McIver her second full term. A former Newark council president, she was first elected to fill out the remainder of late Rep. Donald Payne Jr.’s unexpired term after he died on April 24, 2024.

The congresswoman’s first term has been controversial. She is under indictment for forcibly impeding and interfering with federal officers following a scuffle at the Delaney Hall immigrant detention facility in Newark. McIver has argued those charges are politically motivated and has asked the U.S. 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals to throw them out.
