The Colorado Springs Police Department on Monday released an updated count of the victims injured in last week’s deadly attack at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs.

Five people died in the Nov. 19 shooting at Club Q, and a total of 22 additional victims have been identified as suffering injuries during the attack.

The count does not include the suspected gunman, who was confronted and beaten by two Club Q patrons, and is currently being held at the El Paso County jail awaiting the filing of formal charges by 4th Judicial District Attorney Michael Allen.

Police said the count of injured victims includes 17 people who suffered a gunshot wound, and five people who were injured by something other than a gunshot. Monday’s press release also identified 12 community members “who were a victim with no visible injuries,” and continued to encourage any witnesses to the shooting to contact investigators.

“The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has completed the autopsies of the deceased victims,” the release said. “While the Coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death, all of the deaths are being investigated as a homicide.”

Investigators completed their work on-site at Club Q and returned the property to the owners on Friday, police said. Beginning today, CSPD will return personal property left behind at the club by victims at a Community Resource Expo, where crisis counseling services are also available.

Thomas James, one of the Club Q patrons who confronted the shooter, spoke publicly about the attack for the first time on Sunday. He remains in stable condition at Centura Penrose Hospital.

“Thankfully, we are family, and family looks after one another,” James said in a statement. “We came a long way from Stonewall. Bullies aren’t invincible.

“My thoughts are with those we lost on Nov. 19, and those who are still recovering from their injuries,” he added. “To the youth I say be brave. Your family is out there. You are loved and valued. So when you come out of the closet, come out swinging.”
