Pharmacy worker accused of stealing drugs for personal use or distribution

An Iowa pharmacy trainee is accused by state regulators of stealing drugs for her own personal use or for distribution to others.

The Iowa Board of Pharmacy has charged a state-licensed pharmacy technician trainee, Akasha Brown, formerly of Dubuque County, with knowingly making misleading, deceptive, untrue or fraudulent representations in the practice of pharmacy, or engaging in unethical conduct that’s harmful to the public; obtaining or attempting to obtain prescription drugs without lawful authority, and with diverting prescription drugs from a pharmacy for personal use or for distribution.

The board has not publicly disclosed any of the alleged actions that led to the charges being filed other than to say that those actions occurred while Brown was working at an unspecified pharmacy in Dubuque.

State records indicate the charges against Brown, while announced by the Iowa Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing on Thursday, were formally approved by the board almost six months ago, on Sept. 23, 2025.

DIAL officials have directed all questions about the delays in publishing licensing-board charges to the Iowa attorney general’s office, which has in turn referred all such inquiries back to DIAL.

State records indicate a Board of Pharmacy hearing on the charges against Brown is scheduled for April 20, 2026.
