Part of Route 6 to close this weekend

Beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will close the Route 6/10 Connector inbound to Providence in order to level and pave uneven sections of the highway. The roadway is scheduled to reopen on Monday, June 12.
Additionally, the off-ramp from Route 10 South to Union Avenue will be temporarily closed for the weekend and traffic will follow a detour using the Cranston Street exit.
Local traffic only on Route 6 East will follow a detour using the ramp to Route 10 South, where motorists can use the on-ramp to I-95 North (Exit 1B) toward Providence. RIDOT advises drivers to use Routes 37 and 146 to I-95 to get to Providence.
Work is part of the ongoing $410 million Route 6/10 Interchange project. Since 2018, the state has been reconstructing the interchange within the existing highway’s right of way. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
