States Newsroom, the national nonprofit news organization that publishes the Florida Phoenix, announced Monday that Michael Moline has been named editor-in-chief of the outlet.

He replaces Diane Rado, who recently retired. Moline previously served as deputy editor and covered courts, having joined the Phoenix in April 2019.

Moline began his journalism career in Tallahassee, first as editor of the independent Florida Flambeau at Florida State University and then as a reporter for United Press International. He later served in editor roles at the San Francisco Daily Journal and the National Law journal.

“We will continue within the tradition set by the Phoenix’s founding editor, Julie Hauserman, with the following emphases: ‘How does it affect the poor? How does it affect the rich? How does it affect the most vulnerable? How does it affect our shared resources?’” Moline said.
