The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a manure discharge in Cherokee County that reached a tributary of Mill Creek

A news release from the department said manure came from an open feedlot with an overflowing effluent basin.

DNR staff responded to the site Friday and said the producer had taken measures to “mitigate the impact of the discharge.”

Daniel Morse, an environmental specialist with DNR, said Monday that the volume of the manure discharge was unknown.

Morse said no dead fish were observed in the creek, which flows into Mill Creek. DNR advised downstream creek users to avoid using the water in Mill Creek.
