Local health officials, orgs educate communities on Monkeypox emergency | Friday Morning Coffee

Good Friday morning, all.
ICYMI: The Biden administration declared a public health emergency for Monkeypox on Thursday afternoon as the U.S. recorded more than 6,600 cases nationwide.
The declaration comes nearly two weeks after the World Health Organization declared the virus an “emergency of international concern.” Federal officials report that a formal emergency declaration will allow the administration to expand testing and vaccine access.
Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra has said that HHS has already delivered more than 600,000 vaccines by partnering with local, state and tribal governments.
As of Thursday evening, Pennsylvania reported 173 cases of Monkeypox, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
With case counts continuing to rise, community leaders and health officials are educating people about the virus, how it spreads, and where to find testing and vaccines.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health also has a fact sheet with more information about the virus and who is eligible for a Monkeypox vaccine.
While a few states including New York, California and Illinois, have declared Monkeypox a public health emergency, Pennsylvania’s state health officials have not made any declarations.
