The Jump Creek Recreation Site in Owyhee County is re-opening, after officials report the Jump Fire is fully contained.

The Bureau of Land Management Owyhee Field Office is lifting a temporary closure starting at 6 p.m. Thursday for the southwestern Idaho site, which is seven miles southwest of Marsing.

The temporary closure issued Tuesday was for BLM-managed public lands in the site, but not private land, the BLM said in a news release.

The Jump Fire is believed to have been sparked by lightning Monday about 15 miles south and southwest of Marsing, the news release said. By mid-day Thursday, the fire had burned roughly 12,000 acres of grass and brush.

The Jump Fire was fully contained at 8 p.m. Wednesday, BLM Public Affairs Specialist Caleb Ashby told the Idaho Capital Sun in an interview. That means fire progression stopped, but the BLM says hot spots can still produce smoke.

The fire is expected to be controlled Thursday night, Ashby said. That’s when hotspots are eliminated, there isn’t risk of it spreading and fire officials can pull resources off the fire to move to another fire, he said.

Firefighting crews and emergency vehicles are still operating in the area, the BLM says. People recreating nearby are encouraged to “travel responsibly by staying on designated roads and trails,” the news release said. The public should obey evacuation orders by the sheriff’s office, the BLM says.
