Idaho governor orders flags to be lowered to half-staff for Sept. 11

Idaho Gov. Brad Little issued a directive ordering that U.S. and state flags be lowered to half-staff for the entire day on Sept. 11 to mark the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. 

“Twenty-five years after 9/11, we honor the heroes who ran toward danger, remember the innocent lives taken and recognize the extraordinary unity and patriotism that emerged from that terrible day,” Idaho Gov. Brad Little said in a statement Thursday. “Nearly a quarter of Americans alive today were born after 9/11 and never experienced it firsthand. That makes it even more important that we pass its lessons to the next generation. We must keep alive the legacy of those we lost and those who served by teaching our children to remember, to honor, and to love our country. God bless America.”

In a column written in 2024, Little said he remembers exactly where he was when heard about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks – driving back from his ranch to Emmett. 

“Like the first moon landing or President Kennedy’s assassination, there are historic events that escape no one’s memory,” Little wrote two years ago.

“We will never forget 9/11, and we must never relent in helping future generations understand the lesson of patriotism that grew out of 9/11 – that all of us, despite our individual and varied political opinions – can live out a love for our country during a tragedy, and every day,” Little added.
