Idaho Capitol tree lighting ceremony set for Monday in Boise

Idaho Gov. Brad Little and first lady Teresa Little will begin the winter holiday season with the Idaho Capitol Christmas tree lighting ceremony Monday evening in Boise.
Festivities are open to the public and start at 5:30 p.m. on the front steps of the Idaho State Capitol Building with a performance from the 25th Army Band, according to a press release Little’s office issued Tuesday.
The actual tree lighting will take place at about 7 p.m. and include musical performances by the Andrus Ambassador Honor Choir from Cecil D. Andrus Elementary School in Meridian and students from the Idaho Fine Arts Academy’s vocal major program.
Free candy canes, cookies and bookmarks will be available to attendees, and Santa Claus and an elf will make an appearance and be available for photos, Little’s office said.
After the lighting ceremony, the public will be invited into the Capitol until about 7:30 p.m.
Crews began installing the tree in front of the Idaho State Capitol on Nov. 21 using a crane.
