Gov. Eric Holcomb is in the hospital with pneumonia, according to a tweet from his office signed by his press secretary.

“(Holcomb) went to the doctor Thursday afternoon thinking it was the flu, but he was diagnosed with pneumonia,” the tweet from Erin Murphy read. “Out of an abundance of caution he was admitted to the hospital and he’s responding well to treatment.”

The office declined to share any more information beyond that statement.

Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch offered the following in response to news of his hospitalization for pneumonia:

“I’ve been in contact with his staff today, and it’s good to hear the Governor is resting well and responding to treatment. I will be praying for a speedy recovery for him.”

Holcomb was scheduled to award the 2022 Sachem Award to Patricia “Pat” Koch of Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana. The event is now rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 9.

The 91-year-old Koch, who founded the amusement park, was set to receive the reward in the Heritage Hills High School in Lincoln Park to recognize her lifetime achievement and community service. Previous recipients include Jim Morris, in 2021; Holocaust survivor Eva Mozes Kor, in 2017; and Rev. Theodore M. Hesburge, the president emeritus of the University of Norte Dame, in 2006.

Koch is Holcomb’s sixth Sachem honoree, according to the office.
