One of the coolest things about stepping into the role of editor at Oklahoma Voice is that I now write opinion pieces. There are some good editorial writers in the state, but there’s long been a shortage of columnists who solely focus on state government-related policy.

Each Monday, I generally publish a new column that relies on facts, tough love and my own lived experiences to explain how decisions — or lack of them — are impacting Oklahomans. As part of our republishing agreements, publications across the state run the columns.

I enjoy hearing from readers from all over Oklahoma who reach out to cheer me on or to tell me they disagree with my columns. Some just want more information about an issue because now they’re thinking about it.

That’s the sign of a healthy free press, and I’m encouraged everyday that people are thirsty for information about what’s happening in their state capital.

One of the reasons I can be so candid is that Oklahoma Voice is not beholden to any advertisers, lobbyists or political candidates. Thanks to the generosity of our donors — people like you — you’ll never find advertising on our site or our content behind a paywall.

But it takes our readers to help us continue to grow.

So, this Giving Newsday, as we like to call it, will you help us continue to strengthen our mission by making a donation?

Thanks as always for being a reader and your continued support of Oklahoma Voice.

Sincerely,

Janelle Stecklein/Editor
