State and federal wildlife officials are looking for information on a collared male grizzly that was shot and killed near Berray Mountain in Sanders County on what they believe was the evening of May 16.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks said in a news release Tuesday the bear was discovered on May 24, more than a week after it is believed to have been killed.

The bear was found dead near the South Fork of the Bull River off Forest Road 2272 north of Noxon in northwest Montana, FWP said.

FWP said wildlife officials with the department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found the bear had multiple gunshot wounds. It had been collared for research but had no conflict history, FWP said in the news release.

The department said it was not releasing further information as of Tuesday and asks anyone with information about the shooting of the grizzly bear to call 1-800-847-6668.
