Federal court ruling temporarily halts Title IX changes in dozens of NC schools

A federal court ruling in Kansas that temporarily restricts implementing a series of Title IX changes advanced by the Biden administration affects 43 schools in North Carolina.
More than half of all U.S. states (all represented by Republican attorneys general) joined or filed lawsuits against the Biden administration’s new rules that would ban sex-based discrimination at schools receiving federal funding.
North Carolina did not participate in any of these lawsuits.
But when federal District Court Judge John Broomes issued a ruling that blocked the U.S. Department of Education from enforcing the new regulations in those 26 GOP-led states, he also extended the order to apply to any school with students who are members of three conservative organizations that sued as well.
These organizations are Young America’s Foundation, Female Athletes United, and Moms for Liberty.
The Title IX change would extend the definition of sex discrimination to include sexual orientation and gender identity. It was set to take effect on Aug. 1.
