Dr. Rebecca Kreitzer discusses NC’s new abortion law and the impact on state politics

Now that the governor’s veto has been overridden, a multitude of new restrictions related to abortion go into effect in North Carolina on July 1st.  While the bill (SB 20) has been widely characterized as a 12-week ban, a closer look at the details of the new and complex law makes clear that it goes a lot further.  In an effort to understand these momentous changes, as well as how they comport with public opinion and might ultimately impact state politics, NC Newsline caught up with an expert who’s actually carefully read and analyzed the legislation: Dr. Rebecca Kreitzer.  Kreitzer is an associate professor of public policy and an adjunct associate professor of political science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  You can read her complete analysis of the legislation at Old North State Politics.
