On June 25, the city of Boise’s Parks and Recreation Department will hold several volunteer events at different locations throughout the day.

The series of volunteer opportunities are a tribute to Larry Gebert, a longtime meteorologist and community philanthropist who died in April after being a public figure for the Boise community since 1992 while working for KTVB.

In honor of Gebert’s service to the Boise community, Boise Mayor Lauren McLean named June 25 as Larry Gebert Day, the late meteorologist’s birthday. With the upcoming events from the city of Boise’s Parks and Recreation Department, Gebert’s legacy shall be commemorated through acts of service.

Volunteers can help with landscaping and maintenance work at Zoo Boise, join Boise Parks and Recreation and the Daughters of the American Revolution for a “Monumental Challenge” to clean over 1,100 veteran grave markers in the Silent Camp and Field of Honor sections of Morris Hill Cemetery and participate in a garden work party at Boise Urban Garden School.
