Alabama Community College System approves 2% raise
The Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees approved a 2% pay raise at the Wednesday board meeting for the community and technology colleges and the Alabama Technology Network.
The 2024-25 salary schedule provides the increase for all salary schedules and will be effective Sept. 1, 2024 for all employees except faculty schedules, which will be effective the first day of the 2024-25 term, according to documents from the meeting.
Academic staff are generally referred to as faculty in higher education.
Executive Director of External Affairs Boone Kinard previously emailed the Reflector that the colleges do not have the same start date but all would have started within two weeks from Aug. 14.
Ebony Horton, spokesperson, confirmed Thursday that the start date is Sept. 1 despite the Oct. 1 start for the fiscal year.
“ The college teaching contracts must accommodate for the Fall term, so COLA and raise considerations have always reflected earlier than the start of the new fiscal year,” she wrote.
The cost of the increase is $7 million, approximately, for “unrestricted and auxiliary for a 2% COLA and applicable increase costs to fringe benefits.”
The Board approved the increase on a voice vote with little discussion.
The Alabama Legislature earlier this year approved a 2% increase for education employees.
The Board approved an increase, with changes to the salary schedule, last summer.
